Wagners CFT Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) profiles have been used to construct pedestrian infrastructure projects around the world from Jan Juc stairs on the cliff face of Torquay Beach in Victoria, Australia to the Jubail Island mangrove boardwalk in Abu Dhabi, UAE and the Ocala Boardwalk through Pine Oaks wetland in Florida, USA.  Pedestrian Infrastructure might include a boardwalk, pedestrian bridges and decking, or a combination of all three.

Boardwalks

Boardwalks are essential community infrastructure which allow pedestrians to move more freely and easily, especially across challenging landscapes.  Boardwalks constructed from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) have added advantages to those built from more traditional materials like timber or steel because they are modular by design, light weight, durable, won’t rust, resistant to termites and require less maintenance.  Find out more about Wagners FRP boardwalks.

$6.9m East End Boardwalk project set to save Townsville millions

Townsville City Council used cutting edge technology in Wagners FRP profiles to build the East End Boardwalk; saving the city millions in repair and maintenance cost over the lifetime of the structure.

Benefits of using Wagners FRP include:

  • Modular by design so installation is smart and efficient
  • Lightweight and can be prefabricated off-site
  • Meet AS1657 for access and mobility (as well as AS2156 & AS1170)
  • Inert – wont react to moisture, chemicals or sun and rot, rust or corrode
  • Resistant to termites and acid sulfate soils
  • Non-leaching which means its perfect for marine environments and areas of high conservation value
  • 5-7 times less embodied carbon compared to traditional materials
  • 100 year design life

Pedestrian Bridges

Pedestrian bridges are also known as footbridges, pedestrian overpasses or pedestrian overcrossings; but no matter what you call them they all serve the very important task of linking two points at height above the ground, which people can use to safely move across.

We see pedestrian bridges being used in places like forests and parks to safely allow people to cross uneven or challenging topography, as well as to protect the landscape and environment from foot traffic.  Pedestrian bridges are also used on railway applications to allow the safe passage of people around trains and tracks and ensure the effective and efficient operation of transportation services.

Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) pedestrian bridges provide a solution for safe and affordable shared-use paths because these bridges are easily customisable, are lightweight (so can be lifted in by helicopter to hard to access places), low maintenance, flat packed and assembled off-site and are compliant with the Australian Bridge Design Code.

First ever clip-on pedestrian bridge for New Zealand

Wagners CFT designed and installed the first ever clip-on pedestrian bridge in New Zealand on the Chesterhope Bridge located on the outskirts of Hastings City in the lovely Hawke’s Bay area.

Watch the video to discover how Wagners CFT were able to install the 460 metre long pedestrian bridge using minimal machinery and minimal interruption to the operation of the functioning traffic bridge.

Decking

Wagners CFT has supplied pedestrian structural Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) decking elements such as gratings, mesh and covertop all across the world.  Our products are uniquely suited to withstand the harshest of environments while providing a low maintenance, long life asset to the local community.

Wagners FRP mesh, gratings and covertop are perfect for coastal marine and environmentally sensitive areas; from tidal flood plains and protected mangrove swamps to alkaline desert and corrosive mining or oil and gas fields.  Time and time again, Wagners FRP decking has proven its unique durability and strength.

Open Mesh

Wagners CFT has a range of decking options including micro-mesh, mini-mesh, open-mesh, covertop, treddeck decking and stairtread.  Performance advantages of Wagners CFT decking include that it is anti-fire, anti-corrosion and anti-aging as well as anti-slip, and while light in weight, it has a high loaded strength.  Wagners FRP decking is also relatively maintenance free and achieves long service life; plus it is non-conductive, easy to install and comes in a range of various sizes and colours.  Got a project you wish to use Wagners FRP decking for? Why don’t you organise a Project Deep Dive to discuss your your plans with your local Business Development Manager.  Wagners CFT has been designing and constructing pedestrian bridges for more than 20-years; using one of the world’s strongest pultruded FRP profiles manufactured right here by us in Australia.  So, if you’ve got a pedestrian bridge project, book a deep dive with us now and work through your project plans and problems with the experts.
