Cost Effective FRP Bridges

Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) have designed and manufactured road bridges for use around the world. From Australia and New Zealand to the United States, we have bridges installed in cold northern climates to tropical coastal areas. Ranging from single span light load to multi-span heavy load quarry bridges, we provide a structure as durable and strong as steel, to fit virtually any transport need.

Wagners CFT has developed a Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) with unique durability which is relatively maintenance free in comparison with traditional materials. Using our FRP composite material for your bridge design is a cost effective solution in all weather conditions. Get started in planning your traffic infrastructure needs and contact us today.

Hybrid vs Fully Fibreglass Bridges

Unsure exactly what type of bridge will best suit your needs? A hybrid bridge is constructed using multiple materials to leverage their distinct properties. Our hybrid bridge construction incorporating fibreglass typically features a composite fibre U-Girder substructure paired with a concrete bridge deck. This design takes advantage of the durability of a concrete deck and the corrosion-resistant, FRP Supporting Beams. Alternatively, the bridge can be designed with other materials such as reinforced concrete, aluminium, or wood for the substructure, along with various anchoring methods.

When weight is a concern, a fully fibreglass bridge is the ideal solution. With a density that is only a quarter of steel, it significantly reduces the overall weight of the bridge.

Modular FRP bridges and FRP bridge decks

We pride ourselves on the development of a modular methodology that can be used to create a variety of sections, tailored to your specific requirements. FRP bridges are aesthetically pleasing in natural settings and can be customised to suit, right down to colours and styles.

In addition to full prefabrication, we are able to provide components with detailed instructions for onsite assembly or sectional replacement. Installation options allow for prioritising cost, time and labour.

Our structures are manufactured and prefabricated in Australia allowing for quick and simple installation in a quality assured setting. Our innovative product solutions comply with engineering and safety standards within Australia, New Zealand and around the world.

Advantages of CFT Traffic Infrastructures

LIGHTWEIGHT

Pending inspection, our road bridges can use existing timber and concrete bridge abutments reducing both the time and cost of the project.

LOW MAINTENANCE

Our composite products will not rot, rust, corrode or decay; making it an ideal material in high-risk environments near the sea or in flood prone areas. These materials are not susceptible to freeze-thaw cycles and have very low thermal expansion/contraction characteristics.

LOW-COST INSTALLATION

Prefabrication and experience allow us to significantly reduce installation time over traditional procedures. In high traffic areas, we will work closely with stakeholders to ensure a quick turnaround.

ROBUST LONG-LIFE DESIGNS

We design our bridges with long life spans in mind. Our material is ideally suited for extended use in high fatigue structures. As a result of strenuous testing in partnership with Main Roads Queensland, our structures possess an extremely high strength reserve, allowing full load service for decades to come.

We proudly work with…

Benefits of Choosing FRP materials

  • Durable – with an expected 100-year design life
  • Inert – fully resistant to rot, rust and corrosion in saltwater
  • Resistant to termites and acid sulfate soils
  • Lightweight, making it safer to handle, transport and install
  • Modular by design so can be assembled off-site and craned or trucked into place saving you onsite time and expenses whilst reducing weather impacts to your project
  • Cost effective – with reduced maintenance and replacement cycles resulting in significant savings over the lifetime of the structure
  • Non-leaching, so will not release harmful substances into the environment making it suitable for areas of high conservation value
  • Plus structures made from FRP contribute to decarbonisation in construction and reducing global warming through less embodied carbon
