At Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT), we are extremely proud of our ability to supply a low maintenance, long life asset for public infrastructure projects. Our Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) park shelters, all around Australia and New Zealand, are providing local communities with shady retreats to avoid UV radiation or places of refuge to stay dry in a downfall of rain.

Our shelters are tailored to each clients’ needs and wants, right down to colour choice. Our FRP products have a long service life (100+) with reduced maintenance costs in comparison to traditional construction materials. Every profile we produce at Wagners CFT has incredible UV resistance, making it suitable for even the deserts of Western Australia or the heart of the Northern Territory.

Due to the composition of FRP structures, they are perfectly suited for areas of high conservation value and marine environments. Every shelter we design is done so to withstand cyclones with full AS1170 compliance. Get started in designing your park shelter needs and contact us today.

Benefits of Choosing FRP

  • Durable – with an expected 100-year design life
  • Inert – fully resistant to rot, rust and corrosion
  • Resistant to termites and acid sulfate soils
  • Lightweight, making it safer to handle, transport and install
  • Modular by design so can be assembled off-site and craned or trucked into place saving you onsite time and expenses whilst reducing weather impacts to your project
  • Cost effective – with reduced maintenance and replacement cycles resulting in significant savings over the lifetime of the structure
  • Non-leaching, so will not release harmful substances into the environment making it suitable for areas of high conservation value
  • Plus structures made from FRP contribute to decarbonisation in construction and reducing global warming through less embodied carbon

Australian Code Compliance

We have developed design methodologies for composite park shelters from the following standards:

  • AS 1657 – Design for access and mobility
  • AS 2156 – Walking tracks, infrastructure design
  • AS1170 – Structural design actions

The Eurocomp design code and handbook design of composite structures differs slightly from that of traditional materials, in that the ‘serviceability’ criteria generally dominates the design process. Typically, traditional materials are designed primarily for strength, and ‘serviceability’ checks are performed. But due to the low Modulus of Elasticity of FRP profiles compared to steel for example, structures are designed to meet the stiffness criteria and as a result contain large strength reserves.

Wagners CFT also meets the international management standards for:

  • Occupational Health & Safety ISO 45001
  • Environment ISO 14001
  • Quality ISO 9001

Installing FRP Park Shelters

With FRP’s naturally lightweight advantage, it is easier than more traditional materials to transport, handle and install. Once your project is ready to build, we can put you in contact with one of our installation partners, should you require it. However, our prefabricated, modularised designs do make for quick and easy installation. Our FRP park shelters are pre-drilled to client specification and are available in kit form.

Maintenance

Wagners CFT has uniquely designed our composite structures to withstand the harshest environments. FRP is a durable material, with an expected 100-year design life, providing a low maintenance, long lasting asset.

Our park shelters have proven time and again their unique durability and strength, perfect for coastal, marine, and environmentally sensitive areas.

An exceptional advantage of FRP infrastructure is the reduced ongoing maintenance requirements compared to other materials, such as steel and timber. This is often expressed as the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a structure.

What makes FRP the right choice?

FRP is an incredible composite material that is stronger than steel and meets all stiffness criteria; with Wagners CFT FRP structural profiles achieving an Elastic Modulus of 40 (E40) which is well above our competitors. When it comes to strength, our glass ratio is unbeatable – at 76% glass. This makes our pultruded FRP structural profiles one of the world’s strongest, and the reason we don’t call it a fibreglass reinforced plastic as it’s sometimes known as.

Yet there are so many more performance advantages to FRP than its strength alone. Its UV resistance, thanks to Wagners CFT protective UV coating, low maintenance and cost savings make it a perfect choice for your new project.
