In collaboration with Kenmac Constructions, Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) designed and supplied two pedestrian bridges for the Douglas Shire Council over Hutchinson’s Creek in Diwan, far north Queensland.

The new 18m pedestrian bridge crossing over Hutchinson’s Creek provides safe access for students, families and teachers to Alexander Bay State School.  The bridges were loaded onto trucks at Wagners CFT manufacturing facility in Wellcamp on a Friday and arrived safely to the site some 1,800 kilometres the following Monday morning where they were lifted and installed into position in record time.

Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is the perfect material for this application because it is durable with a 100-year design life, will not rot, rust or corrode and is resistant to acid sulfate soils and termites.  The community of Douglas Shire in far north Queensland will enjoy generations of use out of these bridges and reduced ongoing maintenance and replacement costs.
