The pedestrian boardwalk and cycleway across Rifle Range Creek in Bargara, Queensland provides an essential link between recreational facilities, services and urban housing.  Designed by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) and certified by icubed engineering, the 40-metre long bridge was constructed by Wagners CFT from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) manufactured at their Wellcamp manufacturing facility near Toowoomba.

Fibre Reinforced Polymer is the pefect material solution for the Rifle Range Creek project in Bargara because its:

  • Chemically inert – which means it won’t rot, rust or corrode despite prolonged exposure to coastal salt and spray from the Coral Sea
  • Durable – with a 100-year design life
  • Non-leaching – so safe for use in marine environments or areas of environmental significance
  • Resistant to termites, marine borers and acid sulfate soils
  • Plus Bundaberg Regional Council will benefit from choosing FRP over traditional materials for decades to come through reduced ongoing maintenance and replacement cycles

Rifle Range Creek is a haven for various wetland birds including the mangrove gerygone, masked lapwing and the black-fronted dotterel.  In 2009, Bundaberg Regional Council and the Burnett Mary River Group planted 2.5 hectares of native coastal trees to provide a riparian buffer zone and protect the mouth of the creek and mangrove forest shielding the coastline.
