The three fishing platforms off Webber Esplanade in Cooktown, Queensland are an engineering marvel!  Each platform is 5-metres wide and is cantilevered out from the rock embankment some 8-metres.  Fully supported by a massive concrete pad, these fishing platforms have been engineered to take whatever weather far north Queensland dishes up.  Plus they provide an incredible viewing platform across Cooktown Bay and a great fishing spot for locals and tourists alike.

Constructed from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) profiles manufactured by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) at their Wellcamp facility in Queensland, these fishing/viewing platforms are:

  • Durable with a 100-year design life
  • Chemically inert – so will not rot, rust or corrode
  • Non-leaching – perfect for marine biodiversity
  • Resistant to acid sulfate soils, termites and marine borers
  • Stronger than steel, but lightweight – easy to handle
  • Modular – easy to repair

The fishing/viewing platforms were built as part of Cook Shire Council’s Foreshore and Webber Esplanade Revitalisation program which saw this area become an important activity precinct for the town; reinforcing tourism opportunities and reconnecting the people with the water.
