In what was Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies’ (CFT) first project for New Zealand, you will discover how we designed and installed the world’s first clip on pedestrian walk and cycleway to Chesterhope Bridge utilising Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) structural profiles.
With the NZ Government set to roll out funding for cycleways extending from one side of the country to the next, Wagners CFT were quick to jump at the opportunity and pleased to be awarded the contract for the design and supply of the pedestrian bridge and cycleway. Located on the outskirts of Hastings City, in the lovely Hawke’s Bay region, straddling the Ngaruroro River is the 460-metres long dual carriage Chesterhope Bridge.
The bridge now has a safe addition of the clip-on pedestrian bridge and cycleway to allow people to easily cross the bridge without interacting with traffic. The new clip-on pedestrian bridge and cycleway weighs a mere 110 kilograms per metre; allowing the pedestrian bridge and cycleway to be installed using smaller machinery and minimal interruption to the traffic on the bridge. The customer was happy that Wagners CFT were able to design and supply a 100-year design life structure with no fuss or variations.
