Composites, Calculating Their Embodied Energy 2009

University of New South Wales Embodied Energy Study

This comprehensive report produced by the Life Cycle Engineering & Management Research Group at University of New South Wales was aimed at quantifying the embodied energy in composite materials and measuring what, if any the carbon savings are gained verses traditional materials such as steel, timber and aluminum. Wagners was one of six Australian composite manufactures that were chosen to undertake this landmark cradle to grave carbon footprint study. After a detailed accounting of all aspects of manufacturing, transport, and disposal of Wagners CFT materials the result were presented in the report "Composites, Calculating Their Embodied Energy 2009".

This study concluded that:

"the (Wagners) fibre composite has an environmental impact which is 77% less than that of a hardwood timber... This equates to a lessening on the effects towards human health, the ecosystem quality and resource use during its life cycle."

You can download the report in its entirety.

Innovation in Sustainable Technologies Award

Sustainability Award

In 2009 Wagners CFT's accomplishments in the field of environmentally friendly manufacturing was recognized by the Queensland Government by receiving an "Innovation in Sustainable Technologies Award". Further recognizing the manner in which Wagners CFT views its place in the materials manufacturing industry for a sustainable future.
